| WHAT IS THE A/B
FORMAT?
The Modified Capitol Cup format, also known as the
A/B format is a spectator and athlete friendly
format that allows spectators to see not only
competition, but warm ups as well as two full sets
of equipment will be on the competition floor! For
athletes, for the first time at a regional
championship, warm ups and competition will be on
the same equipment! How is this done? For each
event, there will be identical equipment side by
side (including 2 floors!). One set will be
designated as 'A', the other 'B'. Athletes in the 'A' flight will warm up on the
'A' equipment. Once
competition begins, the athletes in the 'B' flight
will begin warm up on the 'B' equipment. At the
conclusion of the rotation, judges will simply turn
around, or turn their attention to begin judging the
'B' flight. Athletes from the 'A' flight will rotate
to their next event and begin their warm up.
Why go to A/B format?
This format, which
is designed to save time (which it does), not only
moves the meet along, but also has the benefit of 1)
athletes compete on the very same equipment that
they warmed up on, and 2) allows spectators to watch
all of the action, warm up and competition, keeping
them engaged for the entire session! This format was
used at the 2009 Florida State Championships and was
a great success! Now watching the competition will
be more fun than ever and athletes have the very
best opportunity to make the best of their
competition! |
